Ilias Lalaounis Rock Crystal Quartz Greek Key Drop Earrings in 18k Yellow Gold
A pair of gold and rock crystal drop earrings by Ilias Lalaounis, the earrings designed as an elongated tapered plaque of rock crystal quartz carved to the front with a geometric Greek-key motif and set within an 18k gold surround suspended from a fine articulated gold bar beneath a stylized gold fretwork motif with clip fittings. These earrings are part of the Far East collection which was inspired by the motifs found commonly in both ancient Chinese and Greek art. The fret-like patterns seen on these earrings were frequently found on jade ornaments of the Chou period (1030-221 B.C.) Lalaounis notes that… "They make use of the same ideas of the labyrinth, the meander and the spiral that are found on Greek vases of the Geometric period. Thus the feeling of accuracy, balance and rhythm emerges as the common element of Greek and Chinese art, bridging continents and centuries." The earrings measure 2 5/8" in length and are 1/2" across at the widest (the bottom of the dangle). The earrings are currently clip fastenings but can be converted to pierced upon request.
