We love hearing your kind words!
I simply can’t say enough good things about working with The Jeweled Crescent. I have had her work on three different pieces now and I’m blown away every single time. They helped me design my dream ring and it came out more beautiful than I could have imagined!

13 Tips For Finding Your Perfect Engagement Ring Style
It’s a new era: there are no rules anymore about what gemstones or styles ‘count’ as an engagement ring. There’s no need to worry about what it should look like, how much it should cost, or who should select it and pay for it. Should is out the window. Do you love colored stones? Do it, they’re gorgeous. Are you bored with traditional rings? Go for the style you like. A cushion cut ring shows off the glittering feature stone, and a pear cut gemstone has a vintage glamour. Do you like how an asymmetrical setting looks? Vintage ’toi et moi’ styles with two focal stones might be your thing. Much like choosing a wedding dress, you don’t always know what type of engagement ring you’ll fall in love with until you see it in person and try it on — and you should never rush into a decision. Here are 13 tips for finding the perfect engagement ring for YOU: Don’t be surprised if the rings you loved on Pinterest don’t have the same allure when you meet them in person. Pins are just marketing, they’ll always be presented in a captivating way. Get inspiration, but don’t get sold on a ring before you’ve met it. Try on all the shapes, even the ones you thought you would hate. Seeing them on your hand is a different experience entirely. You’ll likely be very surprised about what actually looks good on you. Listen to your gut and pay attention to the rings your eyes keep coming back to. Letting go of expectations is key - your ring will be unique to YOU. Never try to convince yourself you love something just because someone else does. First of all, they don’t have to wear it. Second, the ring is a reminder of your commitment - selecting a ring based on someone else’s preferences can impact how positive of a reminder it is. Know that the process is different for each person - feel free to take extra time to make a decision. Choose the size, shape and metal that works for your day-to-day life and style. You should feel comfortable wearing this ring every day of the week - and year. Let the beauty be in the eye of the beholder. A traditional big-box jewelry store is going to attempt to upsell you on the high clarity diamonds, but perfect clarity can’t even be detected by the naked eye! Clarity doesn’t impact how much sparkle a diamond has, so don’t worry about lower clarity if your heart is set on a natural diamond. Consider the setting. A thicker setting allows for a more comfortable fit (and therefore a ring that doesn’t move around a lot. A thinner setting allows for future stacking of wedding and engagement bands (with an added bonus of making the stone look bigger). Check out diamond alternatives. More data is coming out that diamond alternatives have a nearly identical composition, and ethical buyers are choosing more alternatives without losing the look they love. Don’t believe the outdated rules of how much to spend on a ring. The number was made up by De Beers about a hundred years ago, and have no bearing within today’s economic situation. It was just a way get men to spend more money, because they didn’t know any better. Forget what you think you know about who should pay for the ring! Some couples share the expense, others create custom rings with a trusted jeweler using family heirlooms. Talk about this, and determine what is most comfortable for you and your partner. Shop for a ring together. Sure, the big surprise proposal is great for tv, but there’s a lot to be said for eliminating the worry that you’ll give or receive a ring that is not quite what was desired. Remember, almost everything can be modified! If you find a stone you’re in love with but you don’t love the setting, it can be changed far easier than you might think. Talk with a trusted jeweler (click here to make an appointment for a consultation!) about what that process entails. It’s a lot less expensive than you realize to get the perfect ring for YOU.

5 Ways to Avoid Having Your Proposal Go Wrong
All too often that perfectly planned proposal can go seriously wrong. That's because sometimes we get so excited about the details and ways we want to pop the question that we forget our common sense. There are five ways that you can avoid having your proposal go wrong, and below are some great tips on how to perfectly play in your proposal no matter where you want to pop the question. When traveling, do not put the ring in your checked luggage. Checked luggage can often get lost or stolen. That also includes the contents in the bags. You never know what happens to your bag when it's out of sight. Instead, you should put the ring in your carry-on luggage. When it comes to your proposal itself, if you are even the slightest bit nervous don't propose on the beach. If you propose on the beach and you are nervous, you could drop the ring and completely lose it in the sand. Maybe propose at dinner and then take engagement photos on the beach which will still give you that beautiful beat proposal while she's wearing the ring. When you propose, you should avoid overly crowded areas. In a crowd, anything can happen, because people are unpredictable and the ring could get bumped out of your hand or taken by a pickpocket who is passing by. This is a likely scenario in European countries where pickpockets are still a prevalent thing! When it comes to planning your proposal, you should propose in a place where it is completely stable for you to kneel down or not lose your footing. For instance, a boat could get knocked by a wave and cause you to lose the ring. If you were going to be adventurous with your proposal, you should propose after the activity when you are back on solid ground.Last but certainly not least, never put the engagement ring in food. Not only could the ring get lost by the kitchen staff at a restaurant, but your soon-to-be bride could also be choked if they eat the ring. Try to avoid a trip to the emergency room by coming up with a more creative way to ask for a hand in marriage when proposing over a romantic meal.

7 Times You Should Remove Your Jewelry
Jewelry, while made of fine metals like gold, platinum and sterling silver, is a little more delicate than you might think. If you choose to invest in pieces that you love, you should know how to care for them. We do a lot of appraisals and Of course, you should have your jewelry professionally cleaned and checked for loose stones at least every six months - more frequently if you wear pieces every day. You can wash it at home with warm water, gentle soap, and a soft toothbrush. Here are the 7 times you need to remember to take your jewelry off: 1. Always take your jewelry off before swimming and participating in active, strenuous activities. This rule applies to your costume jewelry, as well. You might even say it's especially crucial for costume jewelry. 2. Salt water and chlorine can damage all jewelry. When it comes to sterling silver, the residue from sweat can dull your sparkle. 3. Be sure to remove your favorite jewels when you apply bug spray or sunscreen. These sprays and lotions or oils can get into the crevices of rings, chains, and prongs. They also add a layer of film over your jewelry that can make it dull and dingy looking. 4. Take your jewelry off when you are going to be in direct sunlight for a few hours or more. You might not know it, but extended exposure to sunlight can bleach certain metals and materials - especially natural elements and stones, as well as some plastics. 5. Leave your rings at home in cold weather or when you're planning to spend time in cool water. Cold temperatures cause your fingers to shrink, which means rings can fall off without you even knowing. 6. Removing your jewelry also goes for chlorine pools and hot tubs! They can damage and discolor many gold and platinum pieces, and eventually erode the finely polished surface of various gems. 7. Take your jewelry off when gardening. Gardening is unusually abrasive and can cause extreme wear on delicate jewelry. You can permanently damage rings on dirt and rocks even when you're wearing gardening gloves. We frequently see family heirlooms come in with cracked stones and worn-down metals for exactly this reason. As a precaution, when it comes to being active - jewelry can stay at home or should not be worn. You'll still feel amazing, and your beautiful gemstones and fine metals will last significantly longer! Ready to see what your jewelry is worth? Schedule an appraisal today.

Colored Diamonds to Craft Your Signature Style
Is there such a thing as a real red diamond? Or a purple one? You bet! Luxurious colored diamonds occur naturally in all colors of the rainbow. The colors range from vibrant red, pink and orange, to brilliant blue, green, violet, and muted yellow, brown, gray – and even black. That being said, for every 10,000 carats of clear diamonds that are mined, only 1 carat of colored diamonds are found. The most frequently seen natural colored diamonds occur in shades of yellow and brown, including trade terms like "chocolate diamonds" or "champagne diamonds." A colored diamond can be a fun way to create your own statement piece of jewelry. What gives colored diamonds their color and what should you know about them? You've probably heard of the 4 C's: cut, color, clarity and carat, of course. These are traditionally used to understand any diamond’s value. However, with colored diamonds, there are additional parameters to be aware of. The value of colored diamonds is found primarily in the intensity or saturation of the color. The deeper and more saturated the color, the more rare - and therefore, more valuable - they are. It is common for diamonds to be treated to enhance their color, either to make them more white or to intensify or even change their primary color. Are color-enhanced diamonds good or bad? Neither- it's all about knowing what you are buying. Color-enhanced diamonds can make beautiful stones with intense colors and generally cost less than white stones of comparable quality. Naturally colored diamonds are judged on the quality of their color as well as the rest of the 4Cs. And while colorless or white diamonds are cut to emphasize their glittering sparkle, colored diamonds are cut to maximize their richness of color. We are so proud to announce our new line of colored diamond jewelry! These pieces are crafted especially with our discerning clients in mind. This is an exciting opportunity to determine your signature style and wear something that truly reflects your personality. Find YOUR ideal diamond and wear it proudly. We have shared a few of our favorite pieces featuring colored diamonds in this article. We can't wait to craft something special just for you! Estate vs. Antique vs. Vintage: What’s the Difference?
If you’ve ever browsed through a jewelry site (like ours!) and wondered what exactly makes something estate, vintage, or antique… you’re not alone. These terms get used a lot—sometimes interchangeably—but they actually have distinct meanings. And knowing the difference can help you shop smarter, whether you’re starting a collection or choosing a once-in-a-lifetime piece. Let’s break it down. Estate Jewelry: Previously Owned, Not Necessarily Old Estate jewelry simply means it’s been previously owned. That’s it. It could be 6 months old or 60 years old. It might be a designer ring from 2015 or a handcrafted brooch from 1890. As long as it had a past life, it’s considered estate. Think of estate as the umbrella category that includes both vintage and antique. At The Jeweled Crescent, we inspect, clean, and often restore estate pieces so they’re ready for their next chapter—whether that’s as your signature everyday piece or something passed down to your own heirs. Antique Jewelry: Over 100 Years Old A piece is officially antique when it’s more than 100 years old. That means as of this year, anything made in 1925 or earlier qualifies. Antique jewelry often features: Handcrafted detail (before mass production) Rose-cut or Old Mine-cut diamonds Platinum or high-karat yellow gold Styles from the Georgian, Victorian, or Edwardian eras These pieces are history you can wear—tiny, intricate treasures from a time before email, espresso machines, or TikTok. (Can you imagine?) Vintage Jewelry: 20 to 100 Years Old Vintage jewelry is the sweet spot between “old enough to feel special” and “young enough to wear daily.” Most vintage pieces date from the 1920s to the early 2000s, and include iconic design eras like: Art Deco (bold geometry, 1920s–30s) Mid-Century Modern (clean lines, 1950s–60s) Retro & Hollywood Glam (chunky gold, 1940s) 1970s–90s fashion-forward or minimalist styles Vintage jewelry is perfect for collectors, stylists, and anyone who wants to wear something different. It often costs less than antique pieces but still has that one-of-a-kind magic. So… Which One Should You Buy? That depends on your style, your budget, and your mood. Antique if you love romantic stories, delicate details, and old-world craftsmanship Vintage if you want statement pieces that feel timeless but wearable Estate if you love a good deal on high-quality jewelry that’s already lived a life At The Jeweled Crescent, we specialize in all three—and we’re always happy to help you find the right piece for your story. Want to Know What You’re Looking At? We include the proper category for every piece in our shop, but if you ever have a question, just reach out. We’re not just here to sell you something beautiful—we’re here to help you feel confident and informed while you shop. Because every jewel has a past. We’re here to help you find its future.

How to Keep Your Pearls Clean Without Ruining Them
It truly does not get much more classic than pearls. Jackie Kennedy was famous for her triple strand and These exquisite keepsakes manage to be dainty and sweet, yet bold at the same time. (This might explain why they’re a popular choice for weddings!) Cultured pearls are quite delicate and require the right kind of care. They can’t be maintained the same way as other jewelry. How to Care for and Clean Your Pearls 1. After every wear, make sure to wipe your pearls with a soft cloth. This care helps prevent any buildup of skin oils or other substances that may have come into contact with your pearl jewelry as you wore it. 2. Clean with a soft, damp cloth only when needed. If your pearl strand has individual pearls that are visibly stained, you can mix together some lukewarm water and mild dish soap or baby shampoo. Then, dip a soft cloth in the solution and wipe the pearls. Don’t ever submerge a pearl necklace in water, as it will cause damage that will weaken the silk thread. 3. Let your string of pearls dry completely before storing. Again, this will help to preserve the delicate nature of the silk string. 4. Take them to your jeweler once a year. While you should wear your pearls often, all that body oil doesn’t do the silk they are threaded on any favors. Make sure to have your jeweler check the integrity of your pearl bracelets and necklaces at least once a year. They can also give them a thorough, safe cleaning. Click here to make an appointment for a cleaning. Never clean pearls with a steam or ultrasonic jewelry cleaner. Both of these methods are extremely likely to damage the outer layer of the pearl. Overall, they don’t require much more care than a house plant, and your pearls will bring you joy for many years!

Magnificent, Mesmerizing Emerald For May Birthdays
Here in Portland, spring might have officially sprung. We’re not totally sure, because the days in Oregon tends to vary wildly between “warm and sunny” and “I’m so cold, why is it still raining?” One of the things we love most about spring is seeing the flower shoots pushing through the earth to soak up the delicious sunshine. The beautiful, vibrant green embodies the lush green of the elegant emerald, no matter the context. While we love the idea of celebrating a birthday in May with an emerald tiara, we know that the cost might be a bit prohibitive (for anyone who isn’t royalty). That doesn’t even take into account being able to get your hands on one! This Diadem belonged to Duchess of Angouleme and is now property of, and displayed in, the Louvre Museum. It’s value is immense not only because of the exceptional stones used for its creation but also because of the fact it is one of the few pieces of jewelry of the period that remain in their original state. We don’t seem to have any tiaras in stock at the moment. However, here are a few of our favorite pieces currently available to inspire you in the name of springtime: This 3.71ctw 18k Emerald Art Deco style pendant is set with 137 glittering diamonds in gorgeous white gold. The pendant features a pear shaped emerald that is held with three prongs, two at the base and a v-cap at the top. The emerald sits above the rest of the pendant in a gloriously prominent position. Click here to view more about this pendant. These emerald and diamond halo earrings are truly a work of art. Dramatic, natural Colombian emerald in a head-turning size, these earrings feature combined 1.31ctw center stones. Surrounding the treasured true green is a delicate halo of F/G VS2 diamonds with a combined total weight of 0.30ctw. Click here to view more details. Like many gemstones, emeralds have a multitude of meanings stemming from different cultures and beliefs. In mythology, emerald is the stone of the goddess Venus, resulting in the association of emeralds with romance. Emeralds are said to bring passion, bliss, and unconditional love! Legend has it that wearing emeralds can give you the ability to foresee the future and see the truth. It has also been believed that emerald has the power to cure disease and protect against evil. It would be our pleasure to create a unique custom piece of jewelry for you. Simply click here to get in touch.

My Top 3 Tips for Buying Diamonds
Buying diamonds can and should be a fun experience. To make the most of it here are my top 3 tips to make for a seamless shopping experience! Buy a diamond with a certificate. You need a diamond grading report or appraisal from a Graduate Gemologist- someone trained at the Gemological Institute of America. This will ensure your stone is graded to the highest standards and there’s no question of what you are getting. Buy a diamond, not a certificate! This might sound contrary to my first point but it isn’t. Some buyers study reports looking for the 4 C’s but buying a diamond just based on a report without seeing it would be like buying a car without a test drive. You can do it, but grading reports don’t always show you that sparkle, fire and brilliance we want from our diamonds. Find a jeweler you can trust (oh hey!) and ask them to bring in several stones for you to choose from. You’ll be surprised at the differences between stones. Consider factors beyond price. Buying a stone online might be cheaper but you get what you pay for. Retailers offer an in shop experience that allows you to look at multiple stones at one time. You also have the opportunity to see loose stones in different settings and retailers are the ones you go to for questions. Retailers also warranty their work and most can perform repairs. Once you find a jeweler that you trust, you will recognize the value of speaking to someone in person and getting help maximizing your budget. Happy Diamond Shopping!

Opals, the Opus of October
Ancient Romans thought that opals were the most precious of all stones because they contained all colors. Is there anything more amazing than the explosion of color that high quality opals flash? They’ve been prized throughout history for this unique property. Ever wonder what gives opals that flash of a kaleidoscope, that play of color? Opals are made of silica, which is a water based substance that forms in the cracks of rocks. Over time the water evaporates, leaving the silica to form round crystals. When the crystals grow, they create patterns which reflect light like rain through a rainbow. Not all opals show their rainbow brights. Common opal, or opal without the play of color, can be found in beautiful opaque colors like creamy pink, denim blue and even teal green. There’s also Mexican fire opal, which can be a transparent bright orangey red. Because opals contain water, they can be easily damaged if they dry out or are exposed to direct sunlight for long periods of time. In fact, dryness in an opal can cause it to crack and loose its phenomenal color. Properly mined opal is stabilized for ten or more years before it is cut so that it can acclimate to its new environment above ground. Opals are by nature soft stones, so while you often see them in rings, they are almost always cabochons, or rounded tops instead of faceted. That keeps edges from chipping or breaking. They are also usually set low in jewelry. As the month of October brings a world of new fall color around us, what a perfect stone to celebrate that fire!

Rare Rubies: Just The Best For July Babies
Get red hot with your jewelry this summer and gift July babies something to talk about with rubies. You’ll put a very happy smile on any July baby’s face when you gift them their birthstone. One of the most highly prized gems, the ruby is nothing but the best when it comes to July babies. Why Is The Ruby Held In Such High Regard? For one, large rubies are harder to find than diamonds. Historically the ruby has always been seen as a crown gem. The gem of passion, they represent strength, integrity, courage, and confidence. Wearing a ruby has been often thought to bring luck, health and wisdom. In Sanskrit ruby means 'ratnaraj' and translates as “king of gemstones”, which is why they have long been considered a very valuable, if not the most valuable, of gemstones. In the Middle Ages, the ruby was often the wedding stone of choice and was predominantly the engagement stone of choice up and through the Renaissance era. The ruby was often thought to promote passion in the relationship keep love lasting long through the years of marriage. While it is traditionally the gem of choice for the 15th and 40th wedding anniversary the ruby is also said to bring loads of luck to those who wear one on their left hand. According to the International Gem Society, “ Fine quality rubies are some of the most expensive gems, with record prices over $100,000 per carat. Accurately grading rubies requires knowing a great deal about them, and there is a great deal to know about them. Synthetic ruby can be created by several different methods, including flame fusion, the Czochralski process, flux, and hydrothermal. Rubies are also subjected to more treatments than almost any other gem.” That’s why most rubies are often priced by color. The closer this gorgeous red gem is to vivid red or a purple red - the higher the price and value. Rubies are quite rare in a large size and a quality, cut 4 carat ruby will often go for more than a 4 carat diamond. Durable in nature, this gorgeous gem really sparkles when set in white gold or silver and makes one beautiful gift for a July baby. Ruby earrings and rings can often be found accented with diamonds and can be found in beautiful vintage settings. Rubies are best cleaned with a toothbrush and mild dish soap when you want to return their luster and shine.

September Babies, Don’t Get The Blues
Sapphires come in nearly all colors of the rainbow. In fact, many of the blue sapphires you see on the commercial market today may have started out a different color. A significant portion of rough sapphires have a green hue and turn blue when heated or otherwise treated. Some of the most prized sapphire colors are blue, pink, and Padparadscha (a bright orangey-pink). Yellow, orange and purple sapphires can be spectacular and there is a resurgence of interest in green sapphires. Did you know there are no red sapphires? That’s a trick question- rubies are in the same family, we just call them out separately. Each color has it’s own personality and intrigue. What should you look for when buying a sapphire? First, make sure you are looking at the “real” thing. Lab created sapphires have been available for over 125 years and aren’t always easy to distinguish from earth mined stones. They are also worth a lot less money. A gemologist can make this distinction. Second, make sure the sapphire is a single stone, not a doublet. Some manufacturers actually use a less expensive green sapphire base with a thin slice of the more expensive blue sapphire on top. This one is tricky, but if you hold the stone in front of light and look at its profile you can see the two different colors. Third, find out if it has been treated. There’s nothing wrong with treatment- the vast majority of stones are spiffed up in some way. Heat and diffusion treatments can enhance the color and clarity of a sapphire, leaving you with a more beautiful gem to gaze at. Sapphires that are beautiful and have not been treated are significantly more expensive and more rare.Still confused about these spectacular stones? Seek out a GIA certified Graduate Gemologist near you. He or she will be happy to help.

A good look can hinge on the perfect jewelry choices, so whether you’re celebrating your BFF’s nuptials or going as a plus-one to your college roommate’s cousin’s second wedding, make sure your jewelry shines. Reduce, reuse, recycle If you have six weddings to attend in the next six weeks, crafting a new look for each one might be a chore. Use your jewelry to refresh a piece for the next event—dress up a daytime look with some dramatic dangle earrings, or keep things casual by pairing bright pendant with a classic LBD. Don’t be afraid to experiment It’s good to try new things! Just find your groove—if you feel too conservative for a statement ring, try a couple mini stackers instead!
